**** For their writing journals, students need some pictures to spark their writing ideas. Pictures of family, pets, hobbies, favorite sports, vacations, favorite places, etc. these can be actual photos or magazine cut-outs... even coloring book pictures... but their will become a permanent part of your child's writing journal, so if you don't want the original destroyed, please make a copy! Thanks for your help- pictures are due any time now! (October 16)
Of course students need the basic supplies to make their year run smoothly! Here are the supplies I will provide:
One 24-count box of crayons
One new pencil per month
One homework book/planner
Lined paper
Two spiral notebooks- one for writing; one for a reading journal
Folders for readin and Accelerated Math
Here is a list of supplies for you to provide:
Most important! Students need a 3-ring binder to house their planner and important papers. You will find homework and unfinished work in the front pocket of the binder, and papers that have been finished and graded in the back pocket. Please have the notebook clearly labeled with your child's first and last name. Make it a one-inch binder, please!
I do have some student scissors in the classroom. However, some children prefer to have their own pair. Just be sure they are still child-friendly and clearly labeled with your child's first and last name.
A pencil sharpener with a cover is a valuable tool at school! Our wall pencil sharpener is often busy or out of order. Again- please have it clearly labeled!
Many children prefer to have a larger box of crayons than I provide, or they find they lose theirs all too quickly. It's up to you!
Colored pencils are nice, but not required.
Even though I will provide one pencil per month, some students will require more- a word of caution, however: if you buy a large package of pencils, you might want to consider holding most of them in reserve. Just send in 2-3 pencils at a time, please!
I have a few rulers... your child might prefer to have their own..,. clearly labeled.
We will be using both full-circle and half-circle protractors this year. Your child may prefer to have his/her own, clearly labeled so he/she will always have it available when needed.
A zippered pencil pouch is a great idea- it can be a challenge for students to keep supplies corralled, and traditional pencil boxes make a mess when they fall on the floor...so... a zippered pouch is highly recommended!
