Hi! I'm Mrs. Laur, and this page is all about me. I am a "Yooper," born in Marquette, Michigan. My family moved to Cheboygan, MI when I was three, and it was there I grew up with my three older brothers and one younger sister. After I graduated from high school, I went to Central Michigan University, from which I graduated with a B.S. in Education. I taught 1st and 2nd grades in Midland for three years before marrying and moving to Springfield, Missouri. During our four years there, we started our family by welcoming two children, David and Julie. After my husband's graduation we returned to Michigan. We lived in White Cloud and Hale before settling in Houghton Lake. Along the way we welcomed one more son, Ben; and I taught 3 and 4-year-olds in nursery school. I also began a healthy career as a substitute teacher. After having subbed in virtually every grade, I began to teach fourth grade at Houghton Lake's Prudenville Elementary School, where I remained for ten years. I took a short break (six years!) to teach music, art, and keyboarding before returning to fourth grade. During my Prudenville years I also attained my Master's of Education degree from Marygrove College in Detroit. Hobbies I pursue (when there is time!) include playing music (piano, guitar, etc.) and singing, quilting, beading, bicycling, writing children's stories, and reading. I love teaching, and embrace the concept of life-long learning. I'm eager to impart that love of learning to my students. So- that's all about me, and I'm looking forward to learning all about you!
